WhatsApp has now released a new update for iOS. Version 2.21.71 introduces self-deleting messages and improves the media preview.

The “Self-deleting messages” function was discovered in a beta at the beginning of March. WhatsApp has now released the feature for all users. The Facebook subsidiary describes the feature as follows:

On WhatsApp, you can send messages that disappear on their own. All you have to do is turn on self-deleting messages. Once the setting is active, new messages will disappear from the chat after 7 days. The last selection applies to all new messages in the chat. Messages that were previously received or sent are not affected. In an individual chat, any user can turn self-deleting messages on or off. In a group chat, any group member can do this. However, a group admin can change the group settings so that only admins can turn self-deleting messages on or off.

WhatsApp version 2.21.71: Media view is significantly improved

If you want to use the function, you need WhatsApp version 2.21.71 or newer. To activate/deactivate the whole thing, the respective chat must be opened.

Then navigate to the settings menu within a chat and select “Self-deleting messages”.

In addition, the new version brings an improved media view. This means that with the new image and video preview, users can see more of the media in the chat. This means that from now on, all images do not necessarily have to be tapped. Videos, however, are still played in full-screen mode. Since the update is currently being rolled out, it can of course happen that not every user can access it directly. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
