Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared on CBS today for an interview and discussed the events at the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, noting that Apple will make a "big announcement" on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, an interview with Tim Cook, recorded on the CBS show "This Morning," is set to air. A major announcement is planned - but it will not be a new product, according to presenter Gayle King. During the interview, Cook made the following statement about the events in the US Capitol:

I think it's important that people are held accountable for this. This is not something that should be overlooked. This is something that we need to take very seriously and understand and then we need to move forward.

Tim Cook: "Nobody is above the law"

When asked if Trump should be held accountable for the violence, the Apple CEO stated that he believes no one is above the law:

I think no one is above the law. That's the great thing about our country, we are a country of the rule of law. I think everyone who was involved in this needs to be held accountable. I don't think we should let this go. I think holding people accountable is important.

The full interview is scheduled to air tomorrow from seven to nine a.m. Eastern Time (for live stream). The event will take place here between 1 and 3 p.m. There will also be a major announcement from Apple. King did not give any further details, but made it clear that this is not a "new product." The interview was originally supposed to focus on Apple's upcoming announcement.

“Bigger and better”: What could Apple announce?

But the events in the US Capitol could not be ignored. Now, however, speculation is rampant online. What could Apple announce tomorrow that is more important and better than a new product? Most observers suspect that it is the planned privacy changes in iOS 14. As a reminder: In the future, iOS 14 will require apps to obtain user consent to record their random advertising identifier, which is used by advertisers to deliver and track personalized advertising. There are other theories, however. One of them relates to the current COVID-19 pandemic. There is actually a small part of the population that believes that Apple wants to offer vaccination stations in its own stores. Whatever it will be - as soon as we know more, we will of course report on it as usual. (Image: Apple)
