In May of this year, a faulty Facebook SDK caused numerous app crashes. Now the problem seems to be back. Users are reporting that they cannot use Spotify, Deezer and many other applications cannot run. As soon as an app is started, it crashes again. They all have one thing in common - the Facebook SDK. Third-party applications are integrated into the Facebook SDK to enable functions such as account registration, analytics and integration of advertising platforms. However, if a logic problem occurs in FaceBook's SDK, all apps that are connected to it suffer. The cause is therefore not Spotify, Tik Tok and Co. but Facebook. Since the SDK in question is very popular and is present in many apps, it naturally causes numerous crashes. According to the company, the problem is already being investigated.
Facebook SDK – How the error is caused
Since it can be fixed on the server side, the whole thing should be over in a few hours at the latest. The so-called Facebook SDK is in constant communication with a data server. The client application code expects the data returned by the server to be in a certain format. However, if the server suddenly starts sending data in a different format, the framework code is not ready to process the invalid response. The application code therefore tries to access values that do not exist - which leads to a fatal error and causes the application to crash.
