Qualcomm hints at 5G in iPhone 2020

When Apple fans read Qualcomm, most immediately think of the years-long patent war with Cupertino – isn’t that true? But in April this year, the buried the hatchetNow the chip maker has hinted at a 5G iPhone next year.

During a conference call with investors, Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala promised a “rosy” forecast for the 5G sector. Analysts claim to have heard a hint towards Cupertino, reports ReutersAccording to Palkhiwala, the introduction of new 5G smartphones from the Asian sector will be very important for the further development of 5G. Existing contracts and licensing agreements between Samsung and Qualcomm, for example, are nothing new. But Palkhiwala's statement went further. According to him, autumn 2020 will also be interesting when other manufacturers enter the 5G business. However, he did not mention any specific names. But analysts believe that this statement also includes iPhones, as Apple and Google are known to present new smartphones in the autumn. This theory supports numerous rumors that Apple is planning to a 5G iPhone in 2020 in planning. Of course, the statement should not be seen as a confirmation, but it should not be ignored. 

Qualcomm does not remain exclusive supplier

In addition to TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon and Summit Insights Group analyst Kinngai Chan also expect a 5G iPhone in 2020. The required module is said to come from semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm. Although the new chips are supplied by Qualcomm, rumors say Apple is planning to become more independent in the long term. According to the rumors, Apple is working on its own 5G chip, the introduction as early as 2022/23 It remains to be seen whether Apple will be able to take this step in two years.
