For months, only a rough timeframe existed for the second season of Pluribus. Now there's a date: Filming is scheduled to begin in Albuquerque on October 31st. This also makes it possible to estimate how long it will be until the premiere.
Back in the spring, it was announced that filming for Pluribus Season 2 would begin in the fall of 2026. In August, Vince Gilligan provided more details: the writing team had finalized the season's plot, and filming was expected to start in one to two months. After the Emmys in September, he told Entertainment Tonight that the start date would be late October to early November.
A specific date has now been revealed in an entry on Production List: Filming is scheduled for October 31, 2026, in Albuquerque. Production List is an industry service for film and television production data. The entry states a planned date, not a confirmed event. This is supported by the fact that it falls precisely within the timeframe mentioned by Gilligan himself.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Filming for Pluribus Season 2 is scheduled to begin on October 31, 2026 in Albuquerque.
- According to the production list, pre-production is underway, the season's arc and the first two scripts are finished.
- Gilligan's High Bridge Productions and Sony Pictures Television are once again behind the production.
- Apple has not announced a release date.
- There are two figures regarding the filming time of the first season: almost eight months and ten to eleven months.
What is known about the production
Rhea Seehorn returns as Carol Sturka, and Gilligan remains showrunner and executive producer. Production List also lists Gordon Smith and Alison Tatlock, who previously worked on Better Call Saul, as executive producers. The series is produced by High Bridge Productions and Bristol Circle Entertainment for Sony Pictures Television, which also produced the first season.
Apple didn't need to reorder the season. The streaming service Apple TV had ordered Pluribus for two seasons from the start. Gilligan himself is now planning for at least three seasons.
Back to New Mexico
Albuquerque is familiar territory for Gilligan. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were filmed there, and the first season of Pluribus was also shot in and around the city. According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production employed more than 1,400 people from the state at the time, including over 500 crew members and more than 800 extras.
The return follows a successful first season. Pluribus is the streaming service's most-watched series, and at the awards ceremony in September, it won six Emmys. Seehorn was honored as best lead actress in a drama series, and Gilligan won for the writing of the first episode. Awards were also given for sound mixing, editing, production design, and the theme music.
How long the first season lasted
The question of the premiere date depends primarily on the filming period. For the first season, there are two conflicting dates given.
| Source | Filming time Season 1 |
|---|---|
| Albuquerque Journal, November 2025 | almost eight months |
| Rhea Seehorn in conversation with Variety, June 2026 | ten to eleven months |
The first season started on November 7, 2025, and the finale aired on December 24.
Why 2027 will be tight
According to the shooting schedule for the first season, filming for the second season will end no earlier than the end of June 2027, while Seehorn states it will be completed between the end of August and the end of September. For a premiere in November 2027, the second season would have needed approximately six months of filming time. Both documented figures for the first season indicate a longer shooting period.
I therefore consider a premiere before 2028 unlikely. Even if everything goes according to plan, the shorter shooting schedule would only leave around four to five months for editing, effects, and sound. Gilligan responded to the question about a late 2027 release date with a joke: sometime in the 21st century.
Anyone who hasn't seen Pluribus yet has plenty of time to catch up on the first season. It aired simultaneously in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with the US, and I expect the second season to follow the same pattern.
Would you rewatch the nine episodes of the first season before season 2 starts, or would a recap suffice when it continues in 2028? Let us know in the comments how you plan to pass the time.
