Facebook has now officially released “Messenger Rooms” and introduced the new Group Facetime alternative worldwide.

The social media giant introduced a new feature called "Messenger Rooms" last month and made it available to a small group of users. In a new blog post, Facebook has now officially released "Messenger Rooms." The post states:

You can start and share rooms on Facebook through News Feed, Groups, and Events, so you can just drop in whenever you want. You can choose who can see and join your room, or you can remove people from your room and lock the room if you don't want anyone else to join the room.

The “room” appears in the news feed or alternatively in the notifications. According to Facebook, the user has full control over the members and can therefore completely control the joining rules. Facebook:

video calls with up to 50 participants

When your friends or communities create spaces that are open to you, you'll see them on Facebook so you can find things to work on and people to hang out with. When you're invited to a room, you can join from your phone or computer—no need to download anything to get started.

We've designed rooms with privacy and security at the forefront so you can feel comfortable with your friends, family, and communities. We don't see or hear your calls, and the person who creates the room controls who can join, who sees the room, and whether the room is locked or unlocked to new guests. The room creator must be present for the call to begin, and the creator can remove guests at any time.

“Messenger Rooms” allows video calls with up to 50 participants. But there is a limitation. While the service is available worldwide, corresponding “rooms” can only be created from the Facebook application in North America. All other users can only create these digital rooms from the Facebook Messenger app. The feature is available in both the Messenger app for iOS and macOS.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
