Apple released macOS Monterey to all Mac users worldwide last week. Now reports of memory leaks are being documented.

When a new operating system is released, there are often reports of various teething issues that, in most cases, went undetected during the beta phase. This phenomenon is of course also observed at Apple. Now, some users are reporting that they are struggling with memory leaks on macOS Monterey. But what exactly is a memory leak? A memory leak occurs when an application or process is no longer able to properly release allocated memory. Over time, this can lead to a service or application consuming large amounts of memory, reducing the resources available to others.

macOS Monterey: Memory Leaks & Problems with USB Hubs

Now some Mac users seem to be having exactly this problem under macOS Monterey. This is evident from Apple's own community forum, as MacRumors reported. On Reddit, a user posted a screenshot of the Activity Monitor posted, which shows that Control Center is using 9.19 GB of memory, a macOS service that normally only uses a few megabytes. In another case, Control Center even requires over 26 GB of memory. Based on the number of complaints, however, the problem seems to be limited - even if it is of course annoying for those affected. Still, it does not seem to be a widespread problem this time. Since macOS Monterey already has another known issue with USB hubs, it is safe to assume that Apple will fix these bugs in a future patch. (Photo by Unsplash / Sergey Zolkin)
