The new macOS Catalina was released earlier this week and now Twitter is finally back.

When it was announced in the summer that Twitter would be making a comeback on the Mac, many fans were over the moon. Apple's Catalyst made it possible - with the help of the tool, developers can port an iPad application directly to the Mac and Twitter has kept its promise. The short message service is now available to all users in the Mac App Store.

Every Twitter user will immediately recognize the app on the Mac - after all, it is similar to the iPad application. This means that the interface is almost identical except for a few minor optimizations. The range of functions has remained unchanged. Of course, there is also the beloved dark mode. The app recognizes whether this is activated system-wide in macOS and automatically adjusts the appearance of the application. Twitter itself commented on the topic in its own blog last summer as follows:

"The new Twitter app for Mac will use our existing iOS code base rather than being built from a separate code base, and follows the same successful strategy we've used with Web to expand our supported clients. By supporting key Mac-specific behaviors in addition to our iOS code, we will be able to maintain feature parity between our iOS and Mac applications with relatively low long-term maintenance costs."

The new Twitter app is currently being rolled out - but it should be available to most people in the Mac App Store by now. Alternatively, you can download the new application directly from the Mac App Store using this link. (Photo by TeroVesalainen / Bigstockphoto)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
