Apple released the first version of macOS Big Sur 11.3 to registered developers yesterday, adding some interesting features.

macOS Big Sur 11.3 has added a number of improvements and new features, including more customization options in Safari, support for the latest Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and more. But now a feature has been discovered (via 9to5mac), which many Mac users have been waiting for a long time. Users can currently pair two HomePods in stereo mode and use them as audio output on iPhone, iPad and even Apple TV. However, it is not so easy on Mac devices - at least not yet. But that is now changing. This means that in the future, users will be able to set HomePods in stereo mode as the standard speaker on their Mac.

macOS Big Sur 11.3: With system-wide AirPlay 2 support

In previous versions of macOS, stereo-paired HomePods were available as an option in the Music app or for other AirPlay content. The selection always had to be made to match the content being played. But in the future, the Siri speaker can be set as the default. In addition, the system now shows a pair of HomePods as a single option in the list of audio outputs, instead of listing each HomePod individually. As a reminder, macOS has not yet supported AirPlay 2 natively, but only selected applications. But now Apple seems to want to change that. Accordingly, the Mac operating system will support Apple's latest audio protocol system-wide. (Photo by Ruslan Ivantsov / Bigstockphoto)
