Back in June, we reported that Apple was giving developers the option to allocate more memory to their applications under iPadOS 15. Now the limit has been set at 12 GB for the high-end models of the iPad Pro series with M1 chip.
Using a special setting, Apple gives developers the ability to tell iPadOS that certain features of their apps work better when they have access to more system memory. Currently limited Apple limits the amount of memory an app can use to ensure that a single app does not use all of a device's memory and impact other core system functions.
Apps get access to more memory
Until now, there was little information about the specific details of this permission, including the exact amount of RAM an app can request. With the launch of iPadOS 15 on September 20, we now know that apps on the M1 iPad Pro can use up to twice as much RAM as was previously allowed. The new details were provided by the developers of graphic design app Artstudio Pro known According to their findings, apps on the M1 iPad Pro, which comes with 16GB of RAM (1TB and 2TB versions only), can request up to 12GB of available storage. On the other M1 iPad Pro models, which only have 8GB of RAM, apps can request up to 6GB. The new change should be particularly beneficial for graphics-intensive apps, such as drawing, modeling, and editing photos and videos.
iPadOS 15 relaxes restrictions
Apple says the new entitlement will be available on "supported devices." At this point, it is unknown which devices will be supported beyond the new iPad Pros. For example, this week Apple unveiled a new iPad mini and a new ninth-generation base iPad with 4GB and 3GB of RAM respectively.
