The first teardowns of the new iPhone models have already been presented. Now the specialists at iFixit are also taking a look at the circuit boards of the two top iPhones.

In general, the new iPhone models are more difficult to open than their predecessors. Apple states that the iPhone Xs generation is sealed to IP68. iFixit was unable to determine any greater water resistance. The seals used are all the same as those in the iPhone X. The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max differ internally. The iPhone Xs Max has a smaller Taptic Engine and an extended logic board. It also has a louder speaker. The iPhone Xs has an L-shaped battery - consisting of one cell. The battery of its big brother still has two cells.

The battery capacity of the iPhones is 2,658 mAh at 3.81V (iPhone Xs) or 3,174 mAh at 3.80V (iPhone Xs Max). In addition, the antenna design has been optimized for Gigabit LTE.

New chip from Apple

A new power management chip is somewhat surprising. This comes from Apple. According to earlier rumors, the iGroup wants to reduce its dependence on Dialog Semiconductor. In addition, the sensor size of the wide-angle camera has been increased by 32 percent. iFixit gives the two Xs models an overall repairability score of 6 out of 10 possible points. The repairability of the two Xs models was also rated by iFitix. They received 6 out of 10 possible points.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
