WhatsApp seems to be currently working on a new feature that allows self-deleting images, as is now reported.

At the end of last year, WhatsApp integrated a function called “Expiring Messages”. The feature means that sent messages are automatically deleted after around seven days. The option is available in both private and group chats. Now the company is planning to extend the whole thing to images, as WABetaInfo reports. According to the report, the messenger is currently testing a function internally that allows self-deleting images. Specifically, this means that images that have been seen by the recipient are then automatically deleted. The recordings in question cannot be saved either. Screenshots taken by WABetaInfo divided , which frequently publish leaks and reports about WhatsApp's plans and upcoming features, show an interface in which the sender can select an image for "self-destruction."

WhatsApp: No screenshot recognition available

When an image is selected to "self-destruct," the recipient has a one-time chance to view it and cannot save the image to their device or export it anywhere. But there's a catch. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has not implemented screenshot detection that would alert the sender when a screenshot of the photo has been taken. WhatsApp's approach to the feature is similar to Instagram Direct Stories, where an image or video can only be viewed once before it expires. Other popular messaging apps like Telegram have been integrating self-deleting images for some time. Whether and when the feature will be released remains unknown for now.
