Apple yesterday released the new iPhone SE 2020 presented. The press release was no surprise, however, as it had already been announced in advance. But what does the new Special Edition iPhone actually have to offer?
The new iPhone SE (Special Edition) 2020 has finally been introduced. After countless rumors, leaks and more, the new, cheaper Apple smartphone is finally here. The device has the A13 chip - known from the iPhone 11 series - and thus offers more performance and energy efficiency than competing products from the Android camp. No expense was spared in the area of WiFi standards either. Like the iPhone 11 series, the inexpensive iPhone SE 2020 uses the latest WiFi 6 standard (identifier 802.11ax). For comparison: The new MacBook Air 2020 was not equipped with the latest WiFi standard. Bluetooth 5.0 is also on board. But one not entirely unimportant component has been omitted - the U1 chip. The ultra-wideband chip was first introduced with the iPhone 11 series. Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a power-saving radio technology for short ranges, but enables very precise location determination - especially indoors. Functions such as AirDrop benefit from this. But Apple’s upcoming AirTags are said to rely on this technology. The omission of the U1 chip in the iPhone SE 2020 is therefore somewhat surprising.
Battery life comparable to iPhone 8
But the device supports the Express Transit card technology known from Apple Pay. This allows it to be used even when the battery is empty or in power saving mode. Although Express Transit mode has been available since the iPhone 6S, the option in conjunction with power saving mode only works on iPhone devices from 2018 or newer. This means that the iPhone SE 2020 can also function as a car key (CarKey), for example, or be used for other unlocking purposes when the battery runs low. The RAM is said to be 3 GB. The battery capacity is said to be around 1821 mAH, as with the iPhone 8. But this has not yet been confirmed - a teardown is necessary for this. Apple itself explains that the battery life lasts about as long as the iPhone 8. The device can of course be charged wirelessly and has a quick charge function. The iPhone SE 2020 is available with 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB - the price of the device starts at 479 euros. Pre-orders will be accepted from tomorrow – delivery starts on April 24th. (Image: Apple)
