Apple sells a dedicated case for the iPhone Duo for €89, and the product page only mentions magnets. However, the first buyers have now unpacked the case and found instructions that show something different. Anyone who likes to change their case should check the instructions before ordering.
The iPhone Duo has been available for pre-order since Friday, along with two cases from Apple. The two-piece iPhone Duo Case made of polycarbonate costs €89 in Germany, while the Folio with integrated stand costs €149. Unlike the phone itself, the cases are already in the hands of some customers.
One of them is X user Amir, who posted photos of the unboxed case and the included instructions on Friday evening. His assessment: The official case looks like it's held together with adhesive. Shortly afterward, Parker Ortolani, who had both cases in his hands, confirmed adhesive strips on the case, similar to those found on other foldable smartphones.
Key Facts at a Glance
- According to photos in the enclosed instructions, the iPhone Duo Case, priced at 89 euros, is held in place by adhesive strips on the two halves of the device.
- Apple's German product page only mentions integrated magnets; there is no mention of adhesive strips.
- The folio with stand, priced at 149 euros, is held in place by magnets, without adhesive strips.
What the instructions show
The instructions inside the box show in several steps how to attach the case to the iPhone Duo. The first step involves peeling off a protective film from each of the two halves; an enlarged section highlights this area. Then, each half is placed on its corresponding side of the unfolded device and pressed down.

A protective film, which is removed before application, typically covers an adhesive surface. The photos show the case in sand: one part with the Apple logo and a cutout for the camera module, the other smooth.
Magnets according to Apple, adhesive strips according to the instructions
On the German product page for the iPhone Duo Case, Apple describes the attachment as follows: Integrated magnets align with the iPhone Duo, ensuring the case stays in place easily and enables faster wireless charging. The page makes no mention of adhesive strips, nor are any included in the package.
The description for the Folio with stand is accurate: it holds in place via integrated magnets; no adhesive strips are needed. Ortolani highlights the Folio as the better of the two cases, noting that the stand appears stable and has metal hinges.
| iPhone Duo Case | iPhone Duo Folio with stand | |
|---|---|---|

A one-time use case, not for changing
I believe the lack of information on the product page is the real problem, not the adhesive strips themselves. For a device that needs to protect two separate halves, an adhesive solution is understandable. However, anyone paying 89 euros for a case should know before buying it that it's not solely held in place by magnets.
If you like to change your phone cases depending on the occasion, this case is the wrong choice until someone has demonstrated how well the magnetic strips hold up to being reapplied. Apple's alternative is the Folio, which uses magnets, but it costs €60 more. At launch, I ordered all four cases and both Folios because I assumed they would all be magnetic. I'll only be keeping the Folios. If you put a case on once and leave it on, you won't have any problems with the case. All the key specifications for the device itself can be found in the iPhone Duo overview, and further information is available on the iPhone Duo page.
