iOS 16 includes a small but interesting new feature for the on-screen virtual keyboard. For the first time, you'll find a new option in Settings that allows you to enable haptic feedback while typing.

This feature has been popular on third-party keyboards on iOS for years. Now Apple is bringing it natively to your iPhone. This means that your iPhone will now vibrate slightly when you press on the keyboard. It is an extension of the existing option that makes your iPhone make clicking noises when you type. Apple explained Keyboard feel as follows:

Turn on keyboard haptics to feel confirmation when typing.

The feature appears to be disabled by default, but you can turn it on by going to the Settings app, clicking on Sounds & Haptics, then on Keyboard Feedback. Here you will find a new option that allows you to enable haptic feedback when typing. iOS 16 is available to developers now and will be available as a public beta sometime in July. Apple will release the update to the general public in the fall, likely alongside the release of the new iPhone 14. Whether your device is compatible with the new software, you can find out here. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
