There is no confirmation so far that the smartwatch is directly related to the issues. At the center of the discussion is the new N1 chip. Apple is using it for the first time in all iPhone 17 models, replacing the previously used Broadcom chips. The N1 is responsible for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity.

The N1 chip in focus

Apple highlighted the advantages of the N1 in advance. In a CNBC interview, Arun Mathias, Vice President of Wireless Software Technologies, particularly emphasized its energy efficiency. Wi-Fi can be used to determine location data without having to turn on GPS. This saves energy because the main processor needs to be activated less frequently. Press releases also stated that the chip makes AirDrop and Personal Hotspot faster and more reliable. However, initial user experiences show that Wi-Fi stability doesn't meet expectations in all situations.

Uncertainty about hardware or software
