The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro have been on the market for almost two weeks. New images from ChipWise now provide a detailed look at the chips that are built into these models: the A18 and A18 Pro. These images provide clear evidence for the first time that these are two different chips, although they were previously considered very similar. Here you can find out the key differences and what this could mean for the future of Apple products.

The new photos from ChipWise show clearlythat the A18 and A18 Pro are actually two different chips. Previously, based on Apple's published specifications, many assumed that Apple only produced a single chip with some features disabled in the non-Pro models. However, this turned out to be incorrect.

  • A18 chip (iPhone 16): Offers solid performance for everyday tasks.
  • A18 Pro chip (iPhone 16 Pro): Has additional features like USB3 support and the technology that powers the ProMotion display.

differences in functionality

While the A18 is primarily intended for everyday applications, the A18 Pro is aimed at users who need more performance, such as support for USB3 and the smoother ProMotion display. This makes the iPhone 16 Pro particularly attractive for users who frequently handle professional applications or data-intensive tasks.

future prospects

The images from ChipWise could also indicate future plans from Apple. It is conceivable that the A18 will be used in other devices such as the upcoming iPad mini 7 or the iPhone SE 4. The A18 Pro, on the other hand, could also be used in future high-end devices such as a possible new homeOS Smart Display be installed.

iPhone 16: Apple targets different user groups with two chips

The new images confirm that the A18 and A18 Pro are two completely different chips, although they initially appeared similar. For you as a user, this means that the choice between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro depends not only on price or display size but also on the different performance requirements. If you need more performance and special features, the A18 Pro could be the better choice. These new findings also give an indication of how Apple could strategically position its future products - both in the consumer and professional segments. (Image: Apple)
