A new video gives a first look inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It shows an L-shaped battery, new placement of the display components, larger cameras and more - even though the device won't ship until Friday.
The early teardown was conducted by PBKreviewst and shows an internal design similar to that of last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max, but with some changes. Like last year, this year's iPhone 14 Pro Max's battery is L-shaped. Also, the battery is slightly smaller compared to last year.
Apple says it has made internal design updates to all iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models to better manage heat. While this teardown doesn't directly allude to those changes, there is a metal plate covering the logic board that may be better optimized for heat dissipation. A graphite sheet on the back of the display also helps with heat dissipation, as shown in today's teardown. The teardown also gives us a closer look at the updated notch replacement, which consists of hole- and pill-shaped cutouts that have been digitally stitched together in iOS to create the Dynamic Island.
iPhone 14 Pro Max teardown
For the first time on an iPhone, Apple has placed the proximity sensor under the display to make room for the TrueDepth camera system and replaced the notch with the digitally created pill-shaped cutout. On previous iPhones, the proximity sensor, which detects when the phone is lying flat on a table, in a pocket, or being held during a phone call, was located in the notch alongside the components for Face ID. The teardown also shows the updated cameras, a closer look at the earpiece, and more. iFixit is expected to conduct a more detailed teardown of all models of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro once the devices start arriving to customers. iFixit's teardown will provide a more comprehensive understanding of what's changed inside the latest iPhones.
