Samsung recently introduced a new generation of smartphones. As has now become known, the devices still lag behind Apple's iPhone 13 series in performance benchmark tests.
Samsung unveiled its new Samsung Galaxy S22 devices on February 9, including an S22 Ultra model that includes a handful of Galaxy Note-like features. The new Samsung devices are among the fastest Android devices on the market. But they are still significantly slower than the iPhone. PCMag has benchmarked the new Snapdragon 8 Sen 1 processor that powers the Galaxy S22 devices subjected to and compared its performance with other popular Android devices as well as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Galaxy S22 Ultra achieved a Geekbench single-core score of 1,232 and a multi-core score of 3,433. It also achieved a Geekbench ML machine learning score of 448.
The performance test is clear: Apple is ahead
The iPhone 13 Pro Max, powered by the A15 Bionic, scored 1,735 and 4,647 points in the same tests, respectively. As for the machine learning score, the Apple device scored a whopping 948 points. In other words, the Geekbench tests show that Apple's lead in smartphone performance is still considerable. With the new A16 Bionic chip due out in the fall, it's likely that Apple's devices will remain the fastest smartphones on the market for a while. Apple devices tend to always perform better than Android models in benchmark tests. This is the case even if an Android device has significantly more RAM according to the spec sheet. This is mainly due to Apple's expertise in silicon design but also because Apple has more control over its hardware and software and brings the whole thing into balance.
