In addition to 5G support, the iPhone 12 series also offers an improved hotspot function, as has now become known.
As reported in several Twitter reports, including Aaron Zollo of Zollotech, noted The iPhone 12 Devices about the new "Personal Hotspot" feature, which serves as an upgrade over previous iPhone models. Before the iPhone 12, Apple's smartphone could connect to both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, but limited hotspot functionality to the 2.4 GHz band. This is now changing. The new Apple smartphones are said to be able to provide hotspots over 5 GHz. Interestingly, Apple hasn't announced the change.

Also, the new "Maximize Compatibility" feature within the Hotspot menu wasn't mentioned in Apple's support documentation. The iOS description simply states:
Internet performance may be reduced for devices connected to your hotspot when turned on.
This means that if the feature is activated, the hotspot is provided via 2.4GHz. However, if the function is deactivated, users can now enjoy 5GHz. Zollo confirmed this in his tests. Although the whole thing has not been officially confirmed by Apple, Zollo suspects that the setting is only there for compatibility reasons. The hotspot is therefore possible via the iPhone 12 even if devices only support 2.4GHz.
