Apple introduced the fourth generation of the iPad Pro yesterday via press release. While the new camera module with LiDAR scanner was unveiled, Apple did not mention some important details.

The new iPad Pro 2020 has received a comprehensive camera update. For the first time, Apple has installed a camera module with a LiDAR scanner. The company explains the feature as follows:

The groundbreaking LiDAR scanner enables features never before possible on a mobile device. The LiDAR scanner measures distance to surrounding objects up to 5 meters away, works both indoors and outdoors, and operates at the photon level at nanosecond speeds. The new depth frames in iPadOS combine the depth points measured by the LiDAR scanner with data from cameras and motion sensors, and on the A12Z Bionic are complemented by computer vision algorithms for a more detailed understanding of a scene.

Why did Apple keep the U1 chip secret?

The heart of the new iPad Pro is the A12Z Bionic chip with eight cores. But how much RAM does the device actually have? Based on the Golden Master of iOS 13.4, 9to5mac reveal some specifications that were previously kept secret. According to this, all new iPad Pro models now have 6 GB of RAM. In the 2018 devices, only the 1 TB models had 6 GB of RAM, while the remaining versions had to make do with 4 GB of RAM. In addition, the same U1 chip that is already used in the iPhone 11 series was also installed in the iPad Pro 2020. But Apple has not mentioned the ultra-wideband chip at all, why? The guys from 9to5mac suspect that it might only be activated later with an update - for whatever reason. Unfortunately, no further details could be found in the iOS 13.4 code. So it remains to be seen what the first test results will be. (Image: Apple)

Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
