After the AirPods 2, iFixit's next customer is the iPad mini 5. The small iPad may not have changed on the outside - but it is unrecognizable on the inside.
The guys at iFixit take everything apart. When a new product is on the market, it is put through its paces, or rather its circuit boards, and then evaluated. The new iPad mini 5 is delivered by Apple in the old design with the latest hardware. It retains the 7.9" display of its predecessor, the Retina display also supports True Tone and has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. The small tablet is powered by an Apple A12 Bionic chip. Users can also use the first generation Apple Pencil. According to Apple, the cameras have been redesigned and can now deliver high-quality images even in poor lighting conditions.
Large battery and lots of glue
The layout inside is almost unchanged. All components have been replaced. The battery usually takes up the most space - at 19.32 watt hours, it seems similar to the previous model. When removing the display, iFixit discovered an old problem - a lot of glue. It is already known that Apple has a weakness for glue. Accordingly, opening the case is a bit more complicated and time-consuming. One positive thing to note is that Apple uses the same screws in the iPad mini 5. Replacing the battery is also still possible - but the amount of glue could turn such an operation into an adventure for technicians. Due to the amount of glue, repairs can be very time-consuming, which is why the fifth generation iPad mini gets 2 out of 10 possible points in terms of ease of repair.
