With iOS 18, Apple presents another significant update to its operating system that takes the iPhone's usability and functionality to a new level. Particular emphasis is placed on the expanded use of the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Below you'll find out everything you need to know about the new functions of the Action button, its integration into the Control Center, and what you can expect in the future.

Apple has already taken a step towards improving the user experience with the introduction of the Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro models. With iOS 18, this button becomes even more versatile by supporting a variety of new Control Center features. This development underscores Apple's commitment to making interacting with the iPhone as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.

The action button

The Action button replaces the traditional ring/mute switch of previous iPhone generations. Already in iOS 17, the button could perform various functions such as ring/mute, do not disturb, camera, and more. With iOS 18, this functionality is significantly expanded.

New functions of the action button in iOS 18

With iOS 18, you can assign the Action button to a variety of new controls in Control Center. Here are some of the new options in detail:

  • Dark mode: Enable or disable dark mode with a simple press of the action key.
  • Airplane mode: Turn airplane mode on or off without opening Control Center.
  • Personal Hotspot: Activate your personal hotspot quickly and easily.
  • Shortcuts: Assign custom shortcuts to the Action key to perform specific tasks or app actions.

Although some features like Power Saving Mode and Orientation Lock are not yet directly available in the first beta version of iOS 18, they can still be assigned to the Action button using the shortcut option.

integration and use

The new Control Center Gallery offers an intuitive way to customize the Action button. You can choose from dozens of controls to make using your iPhone even more efficient. These new options greatly expand on the features already available in iOS 17, offering more flexibility and control.

future prospects

Rumor has it that Apple plans to extend the Action button to all four models of the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, meaning even more users will be able to enjoy this enhanced functionality. iOS 18 is expected to be officially released in September, but even now in beta, users can get a first glimpse of the new capabilities.

iOS 18: More user-friendliness through extended action button

With the introduction of iOS 18 and the expansion of the functionality of the action button, Apple is once again setting standards in terms of user-friendliness and flexibility. The new options in the control center offer even more intuitive operation and personalized use of the iPhone. Whether dark mode, airplane mode or custom shortcuts - the action button makes it possible. Stay tuned for the official releases in September and experience how iOS 18 will improve your iPhone experience. Are you looking for new accessories?
