Apple has released the latest software update, iOS 16.6, for all iPhone users. The new version contains "important bug fixes and security updates," as stated in the release notes. iPadOS 16.6, tvOS 16.6, watchOS 9.6 and macOS 13.5 were also released with the same release notes. A separate update for the HomePod also brings "performance and stability improvements."

iOS 16.6 has been in developer and public beta since May and last week Apple sent out the first release candidate. Although no new features are expected, this update Still significant as it could be one of the last for iOS 16 before only security updates are released. There is one exception, however, as Hebrew language support is added for Apple TV and HomePod.

iOS 16.6 and more now available

iOS 17, scheduled for release in September, is expected to bring a host of new features. With the release of iOS 17, support for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be discontinued, meaning iOS 16.6 will be the last updates for these devices. However, users of older versions of iOS can rest assured that Apple will continue to provide security updates for their devices. With the release of iOS 16.6 and accompanying updates for other Apple devices, Apple is ensuring that users can benefit from the latest bug fixes and security improvements. While iOS 17 will be released in September with new features, it is reassuring to know that older devices will still receive security updates. Users can perform the software update on their devices now to benefit from the improvements. (Photo by Focussa / Bigstockphoto)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
