Apple released the first preview of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and more to developers on Tuesday evening. As part of the updates, the architecture of the Home app was revised.

The betas of iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and macOS Ventura 13.1 introduce a new upgrade to the Home app architecture that improves performance (via MacRumors). The architecture overhaul follows the introduction of the Matter Smart Home standard in iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1. Apple promised a new architecture for the Home app even before the launch of iOS 16, saying it would be a separate update. Apple said it will bring faster and more reliable performance, especially for smart homes that have a lot of smart accessories installed.

iOS 16.2 & Co.: Revised architecture of the Home app leads to improved performance

The Home app allows users to communicate more efficiently with connected accessories and control them from multiple devices at once. Updating the Home app architecture requires that all Apple devices that access the Home are using the latest software. To install the update, users will need at least iOS 16.2 and the HomePod 16.2 software, which is currently available as a beta version to a limited number of testers. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
