In the latest iOS 16.2 beta, there is a small but important change to the way Notification Center works: Older notifications are now shown by default without you having to swipe up.

In both the current and previous versions of iOS 16, older notifications no longer appear automatically in the Notification Center as they did in iOS 15, but must be manually swiped up from the center to view them. In other words, if a new notification arrives and the user unlocks and then locks their iPhone without interacting with it, iOS treats it as an old notification and sends it to the Notification Center, where it is hidden.

iOS 16.2 will be released later this month

In iOS 16.2 Beta 4 (via MacRumors), older notifications will continue to be hidden on the lock screen unless the user swipes up from the middle of the screen. The change to show older notifications by default only applies to the Notification Center, which can be accessed with a swipe down from the top of the screen when the iPhone is unlocked. It is not known whether the change will be included in the official version of iOS 16.2, which is due to be released later this month, but if so, many users will welcome the new behavior as an improvement in the way older notifications are handled. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
