iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 include a ton of new features, including SharePlay, a new Weather app, a redesigned Safari, and more. Another new feature that hasn't been mentioned yet is the ability to easily update iOS to a beta version when restoring a device from a backup.
If someone currently backs up their device with a beta version of iOS and then tries to restore that backup to another device with an older version of iOS, it won't work. The system will indicate that backups of newer versions of iOS cannot be performed and that the user must first update their iPhone or iPad. Users had to either continue the setup process without restoring the data and leave it as it is, or manually install the beta version of iOS and then restore the backup. This process will no longer be necessary in iOS 15 thanks to a new system from Apple. This means that devices running iOS 15 will recognize whether the backup selected by the user is from a beta version.
iOS 15 makes it easier for beta testers to switch devices
In this case, the user can update to the beta version of iOS, which makes it easier to restore all data from a backup of a newer iOS version. As one note states:
Continue to help shape Apple software by testing pre-release versions of iOS on this iPhone. Your other iPhone is in the beta program, so if you don't continue, it may affect the data transferred to this iPhone.
