As expected, Apple has released the first preview of iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, tvOS 15.1 and watchOS 8.1 to developers, thus starting the next beta phase. One new feature has already been discovered - SharePlay is back.
The new betas of iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1 and tvOS 15.1 reintroduce SharePlay, the feature that Apple removed from the iOS 15.0 updates because it was not yet ready to be released. Now writes Apple:
SharePlay has been re-enabled in iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1 betas and no longer requires the SharePlay development profile. To continue developing SharePlay support for your macOS apps, please update to macOS Monterey beta 7 and install this new development profile.
iOS 15.1 and Co.: SharePlay takes FaceTime to a new level
So to test SharePlay, the SharePlay development profile is no longer required. However, anyone who wants to use it on macOS Monterey must continue to use the SharePlay profile and run the newly released macOS Monterey beta. SharePlay was originally added in the second beta of iOS 15 and removed in the sixth build. SharePlay is a FaceTime feature that allows users to watch movies and listen to music with their friends and family members during FaceTime calls. However, the feature also enables screen sharing, a feature that has been requested for years. Since SharePlay is now back in the betas, there is a good chance that the feature will appear in iOS 15.1 and Co. - at least we hope so. (Image: Apple)
