In iOS 14, many smaller features have been implemented and fundamental changes have been made to the home screen made – thanks to widgets.
While the majority of the functionality is already known, small changes are only just being discovered. This latest feature is no exception. Earlier this year, it was revealed that many iPhone and iPad applications were quietly accessing the clipboard, where copied and pasted text is temporarily stored. Given that users may have sensitive information such as passwords in the clipboard, this could raise privacy and security concerns.
iOS 14: Snooping applications have no chance
This is where the new iPhone operating system comes into play. It's designed to offer users more transparency. This means that when an application "scans" the clipboard, the user will now be notified. The same likely applies to the newly introduced widgets, as Tommy Mysk, who discovered the feature, reports. This feature is one of many new privacy protection mechanisms. When apps use the microphone or camera, users are also notified.
