Apple released iOS 14.2 for all iPhone users worldwide on November 5th providedNow a new feature has been discovered regarding FaceTime that was not mentioned in the update description.

In iOS 14.2, a whole series of errors were fixed but new features were also added. For example, the media controls in the control center were revised and the AirPlay button in Apple Music was updated. However, Apple also made an adjustment to FaceTime that was not communicated. As MacMagazine found out The iPhone 8 or later with iOS 14.2 supports FaceTime HD video calls over WiFi in 1080p. The iPhone 12 series even supports the feature over 5G.

iOS 14.2 FaceTime HD: Quality difference is noticeable

The whole thing came to light when Apple quietly revised the product page of the devices currently in its range. Looking at Apple's iPhone comparison tool, Apple now also clarifies that FaceTime HD (1080p) over WiFi is available on all models, including iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone SE (2020), iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. This means that when it comes to using FaceTime HD, the only advantage of the iPhone 12 series is that it supports the resolution over both WiFi and 5G. According to MacMagazine, the difference in quality between 1080p over WiFi and 720p over 4G was very noticeable on the older iPhones. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
