In September, hacker Axi0mX introduced an exploit that allows users to crack any iPhone made between 2011 and 2017—iPhone 4S and iPhone X. Now, the first public jailbreak tool, called "Checkra1n," is available to all users.
The new jailbreak tool allows iPhones and iPads running any iOS version to be cracked. But why is that? The exploit called "checkm8," introduced in the fall, is unpatchable by Apple because it is based on a hardware vulnerability. This affects almost every Apple A-series CPU up to the A11 Bionic chip. Accordingly, Apple cannot prevent the jailbreak with an iOS update. Therefore, "checkm8" is classified as a permanent bootrom exploit and has already been dubbed "Epic Jailbreak." To crack one of the affected devices, a tool is required. This tool has been made available to the public as expected. However, "Checkra1n" is currently a beta version, which is why using the software could cause problems. The app is currently only available for macOS. However, the team is working on versions for Windows and Linux, which will be released at a later date.
Notice: If you are not familiar with jailbreaking, you should not under any circumstances attempt to blindly crack your iPhone or iPad. This process completely removes all software-based restrictions. For example, users can install applications outside of the App Store on the device. In addition, practically the entire system can be modified - removing all blocks also voids the warranty and makes the device vulnerable.
