Developer and hacker Jane Manchun Wong has struck again and caught Instagram testing a new feature. But this time the question is whether the feature is really that useful.
According to the latest discovery, Instagram is testing a function that makes smartphones vibrate when a post is favorited or liked - according to Wong. The feature is not new, however, as it is already offered in a similar form on Facebook. But the function is already clearly encountering opposition. Under Wong's tweet, people are discussing how much vibration is actually good. Obviously not everyone wants their phone to vibrate all the time. Accordingly, some are now hoping that Instagram will integrate the function into the app's internal settings, which allows users to activate or deactivate the feature. Wong was unable to find anything in this regard - which is why panic is now spreading and the whole thing is being hotly debated. Whether Instagram will actually force the feature on everyone or make it a matter of settings is of course unclear. But Apple's App Store guidelines speak clearly on this. It states:
Avoid overusing a haptic. Sometimes a haptic can feel just right for an occasional experience, but become annoying when experienced frequently. In general, avoid designing an experience that provides extended or repeated haptic feedback. Often the best haptic experience is one that people may not be aware of, but will miss if it is turned off.
