Dual SIM: This is why the feature will not be available immediately

The Xs series comes in the same design as the iPhone X. However, the iPhone Xs with 5.8" gets a big brother - namely the iPhone Xs Max with a 6.5" display diagonal. Both iPhones get an OLED display. As expected, Apple has also introduced a new entry-level device. It is called the iPhone Xr and also has the notch. This means that Touch ID on iPhones is finally a thing of the past.

All three iPhones are being delivered with dual-SIM functionality for the first time. A physical SIM card can be inserted into the device. Anyone who has another number can pair it with the eSIM built into the iPhone. The eSIM is already installed in iPad Pros and the Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 4.

However, the feature will not be active when the device goes on sale. Apple will add it via a software update at a later date. The reason for this is the mobile phone providers that Cupertino is dependent on.

In Germany, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone will most likely be the first to offer the service. So as soon as the operator settings have been updated, the long-awaited feature will be activated via an update, according to Apple's promise.

Milan founded Apfelpatient in 2016 and has been responsible for all editorial content since 2018 — news, rumors, guides, and product reviews. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
