The launch of the German Corona warning app has already been announced by Health Minister Jens Spahn for next week confirmed – however, he did not mention a date. Now there is a report that the new tracing app will launch next Tuesday.
The news channel NTV reported that the Corona warning app for iOS and Android will debut next Tuesday. The information has not yet been officially confirmed. However, based on a previous statement by Jens Spahn, the whole thing should be quite realistic. Discussions about the application were first documented in March - the app was originally supposed to be released in April. The new tracing app is intended to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and uses the API provided by Apple and Google. It is being developed by SAP and Deutsche Telekom and relies on decentralized storage - with particular respect for data protection and privacy. The project is open source to create maximum transparency.
Monthly operating costs of 2.5 to 3.5 million euros
The costs were recently debated. Observers believe that the project will cost around 20 million euros and will have monthly operating costs of 2.5 to 3.5 million euros. One of the reasons for this high sum is said to be the two hotlines provided by Deutsche Telekom. These will help users install the app and, if necessary, enter a positive test result. This is a security mechanism. If someone tests positive, the person concerned must contact the call center to receive an activation code, otherwise they will not be able to enter their result in the app. This is one of the ways to prevent misuse.
