The fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has now released a new application for iOS and Android – the Corona data donation.
Wash your hands, keep your distance, donate your data. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has released a new app with this motto. It helps fight the novel coronavirus and is voluntary for all users and can be used pseudonymously. The entire application was created with data protection in mind. The app description states:
The Robert Koch Institute is asking the public for support in containing the current COVID-19 pandemic. In order to support public authorities with precise assessments of the current spread areas and predictions of future chains of infection, the scientific models rely on regional data on symptoms.

You have the opportunity to easily help create regional spread models and thus save lives. With the Corona data donation app, you can provide completely pseudonymous information on the spread of the infection. To do this, connect your wearable or fitness tracker. Based on your movement, sleep and pulse patterns, feverish infections can be automatically detected. The Robert Koch Institute can use this to estimate and predict infections on a daily basis.
More features to follow
The Corona data donation app works in conjunction with a smartwatch or optionally a fitness bracelet. Apple Watch users must connect the item “AppleHealth” in the “Link your wearable” area. A further note will then appear, followed by familiar instructions, and you can get started. The app will also be upgraded with additional features in later updates, including a questionnaire on symptoms.
