iOS 16 introduced a new privacy feature that required apps to ask the user's permission before directly accessing the iPhone's clipboard to paste text from other apps. But some users encountered an issue that caused the prompt to appear excessively often. Apple released iOS 16.0.2 in late September with a fix for this issue and other bugs.

In the following weeks, Apple continued to improve the copy and paste feature. In the Settings app of the fourth beta of iOS 16.1 and later, a new "Paste from other apps" menu appears for apps that have previously asked for permission to paste content from another app.

Copy & Paste: iOS 16.1 improves data protection

You can find the menu in the app Settings -> [App name] -> Paste from other apps. The menu offers users three options:

  • Questions: The app must still ask for permission to insert content from other apps.
  • Deny: The app cannot use content from other apps.
  • Allow: The app can use content from other apps without asking for permission again.

The menu gives users more control and flexibility over copy and paste permissions, which should help make the privacy feature less annoying. Note that the menu will not appear for apps that have never requested clipboard permission. Looking for new accessories? Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
