Apple has finally announced the long-awaited iOS 17, which brings numerous improvements and new features to the iPhone operating system. But before you get too excited about the update, there is one important piece of information you should know. Not all iPhone models will be compatible with iOS 17. In this article, you will find out which iPhones will receive the update and which will not.

With each new iOS version, Apple brings exciting new features that improve the iPhone user experience. But in some cases, older models have to be left behind due to technical requirements. This is also the case with iOS 17. Let's take a look at which iPhone models will receive the update and which will not. Unfortunately, iOS 17 will not be able to run on all iPhone models.

iOS 17 Update: New features for selected iPhone models – Which device is compatible?

The update requires the A12 Bionic chip or higher, which means the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X will not receive the update. These models will continue to be supported with the current version of iOS, but without the new features in iOS 17. On the plus side, there are a number of iPhone models that are compatible with iOS 17. Here is a list of all the iPhones that will receive the update:

  • iPhone XS and XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 and 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 series
  • iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)

If you own one of these models, you can look forward to the exciting new features and improvements that iOS 17 brings. From more lock screen customization to improvements for iMessage and FaceTime to new features for the Health app and a new standby mode, there's a lot to explore.

Conclusion

iOS 17 is an exciting update to the iPhone operating system with numerous improvements and new features. Unfortunately, not all iPhone models will be compatible with the update. It is important to note that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will not receive the update. However, if you own a compatible iPhone, you can look forward to the upcoming update. The official release is scheduled for this fall. Look out for more information on Apple's website to learn more about iOS 17 and get the most out of your iPhone. Looking to buy a new iPhone? Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
