The 4th generation of the Apple Watch comes with a redesign. Despite the larger display, the straps of the previous models are compatible.
In the Christmas quarter of 2017, Apple made more sales with the Apple Watch than the entire Swiss watch industry combined. It is considered the best-selling watch in the world - even Rolex had to give way. But how big is the difference in speed compared to the previous models? The Apple Watch Series 4 has the S4 chip with 64-bit installed. According to Apple, it is 2x faster than the S3 chip. But how big is the difference compared to the older models? The online magazine MacRumors asked itself this question and recorded the test on video.
Restart, Siri, Apps
The comparison is based on three disciplines: using Siri, opening apps and restarting. There is a clear winner here. The restart. The biggest difference was when starting the smartwatch. The Apple Watch Series 4 takes a total of 51 seconds to boot up. The Series 3, on the other hand, takes a full 2 minutes and 19 seconds to be ready for use. The 2nd generation Apple Watch requires a waiting time of 4 minutes. The Series 1, on the other hand, scored points because, interestingly, the boot process only took 3 minutes and 19 seconds - why its direct successor takes longer is unclear.
With a full 5 minutes and 8 seconds, the Series 0 brings up the rear.
There were hardly any noticeable discrepancies in the other two disciplines. Of course, the Series 4 won the race. In a direct comparison, it is, as promised by Apple, faster than the Apple Watch Series 3. The difference to the previous generations was much more noticeable. Here, the Series 1 and 0 sometimes even failed completely. The entire test can be seen in the video below.
