Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned analyst, is casting a shadow over the future of the Apple Vision Pro headset. In a recent Medium post, he shares dire predictions about the shipment levels and timing of possible updates for this high-end Apple product. In this article, we will take a closer look at Ming-Chi Kuo's assessments and discuss the potential impact on the Apple Vision Pro headset.

The Apple Vision Pro headset has already attracted a lot of attention, but recent statements by Ming-Chi Kuo raise questions about its future development. Kuo is known for his precise predictions related to Apple products, so his assessments must be taken seriously. The headset was announced with high expectations, but Kuo has raised concerns that question the future market positioning of the Apple Vision Pro. Kuo according to shipments of the Apple Vision Pro headset in 2024 will fall far short of market expectations. He estimates that the maximum production capacity of some suppliers is only 400,000 to 600,000 units, while expectations are one million.

The high price of the Apple Vision Pro and its effects

This indicates supply constraints and could limit the availability of the product. Another issue Kuo addresses is the high price of the Apple Vision Pro, which is priced at $3499. This could hinder the headset's adoption and affect the growth of the first version. He predicts that Apple may introduce a lower-priced Apple Vision headset in 2025 to increase market penetration. However, Kuo's biggest concern is the need to clearly communicate to potential users why they need the Apple Vision Pro headset. While it may offer a great experience, identifying a clear user proposition seems to be a challenge. Additionally, Kuo expects that mass production of a Vision Pro 2 headset will not begin until the first half of 2027. This means that there will be no significant hardware updates to the headset for more than three years, calling into question the long-term appeal of the product.

The uncertainty of the future of the Apple Vision Pro headset

The future of the Apple Vision Pro headset appears more uncertain than initially thought. Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions suggest that the headset will struggle with supply shortages and a high price. The challenge of clearly communicating the product's benefits is another hurdle that must be overcome. While the Apple Vision Pro is undoubtedly an impressive piece of technology, it may take longer to reach the expected level of success. Time will tell how Apple addresses these challenges and whether the headset has the potential to become a star product for the company. (Image: Apple)
