Late Thursday evening, Apple released the Release Candidate (RC) version of macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 for registered developers. However, the update was not in a public beta phase.

The update description for the release candidate version of macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 lists unspecified security improvements, which suggests that the upcoming update Vulnerabilities in the operating system are to be closed. In early September, Apple released macOS Big Sur 11.6 with fixes for two security vulnerabilities that were being actively exploited in the wild.

Given the late announcement of the beta version, it is likely that the new version fixes similar problems. It is currently unknown when the update will be available to all users. Developers can access macOS 11.6.1 by downloading the appropriate configuration profile from the Apple Developer Center and performing a system software update. Since this is a test version, it is not recommended to run it on a production device. (Photo by Dorieugene / Bigstockphoto)

Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
