Apple released the first beta of macOS 10.15.1 Catalina for developers this evening.

While on yesterday evening The second beta of iOS 13.2, iPadOS 13.2, tvOS 13.2 and the third beta of watchOS 6.1 have been released, and now the first beta of macOS 10.15.1 Catalina follows. The new preview can be downloaded from the Developer Center. Alternatively, registered developers can use the macOS settings under Software Update. At this point, it is not known what improvements or new features the update contains. It is assumed that primarily system optimizations, bug fixes and performance improvements have been made.

New in macOS 10.15 Catalina

With macOS 10.15 Catalina, iTunes was finally buried. What was previously found in iTunes is now independent with the new operating system. Music, podcasts, films and series each have their own application. The new Podcast app offers a special search - it finds texts that were spoken in podcasts. iOS backups have been placed in the Finder under Catalina - you can find out how this works in our extensive Instructions. The new TV app on macOS looks like the TV app on iOS. Playback of compatible content includes 4K HDR and Atmos content. Users can also use their iPad as a second screen. The feature is called “Sidecar” – you can find out how to use it in our Step-by-step instructions.

Are you also a beta tester and would like to exchange ideas with like-minded people? Then our new Telegram group (Apfelpatient – Beta Workshop) might be just right for you.

Notice – As usual, a beta should not be installed on an actively used device, as they are usually quite unstable and buggy – we recommend using a second device for this. (Photo by Somchai Choosiri / Bigstockphoto)
