As expected, Apple has introduced the successors to the iPhone X. They are called iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max. The latter comes with a whopping 6.5" display diagonal. The new generation also retains the notch.

design and size

The Xs series comes in the same design as the iPhone X. However, the iPhone Xs with 5.8" gets a big brother, namely the iPhone Xs Max with a 6.5" display diagonal. Both iPhones get an OLED display.
In addition to Space Gray and Silver, Apple is introducing Gold as another color variant.

Waterproof

The IP68 certification is particularly worth emphasizing. This means that the new Xs models are waterproof. They were tested in beer, normal water and salt water, among other things. Officially, the devices can therefore withstand 30 minutes in two meters of water.

processor and memory

The new A12 Bionic chip with six cores is used. It works significantly more efficiently than its predecessor. In addition, the chip was manufactured for the first time in a 7 nm design. The graphics chip is up to 50% faster.
The two Xs devices will be available with 64 GB, 256 GB and, for the first time, 512 GB.

Camera

This year, the dual camera is being introduced on all premium iPhones. Both the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max can take photos with the popular camera. Once again, both lenses have a 12MP resolution, but the flash has been improved. The support of the A12 Bionic improves image calculation and analysis. This guarantees even better photos. Videos can also be recorded in 4K at up to 60 frames per second - recordings in stereo sound are now possible.

Dual-SIM

Many iPhone users have been waiting for this feature for a long time. The dual SIM function is being introduced for the first time on iPhones. This is already known from the iPad Pro. A physical SIM card can be inserted into the device. If you have another number, you can link it to the eSIM built into the iPhone. However, this function must be supported by the mobile phone provider. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone offer this service.

Prices and availability

The new iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max models can officially be pre-ordered from September 14th. Delivery will begin on September 21st. These are the prices:

iPhone Xs 64 GB: 1,149 euros
iPhone Xs 256 GB: 1,319 euros
iPhone Xs 512 GB: 1,549 euros

iPhone Xs Max 64 GB: 1,249 euros
iPhone Xs Max 256 GB: 1,419 euros
iPhone Xs Max 512 GB: 1,649 euros

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
