The 2nd generation iPad, introduced by Steve Jobs in March 2011, is now officially listed as an obsolete product worldwide.

The second-generation iPad, released less than a year after the original iPad was introduced, marked a breakthrough for the product line and laid the foundation for years to come. Apple added the iPad 2 to its lineup in May 2019. list of "old and obsolete" products, which marked the iPad as an obsolete product in all countries except the US and Turkey, where local laws required Apple to continue to consider it an "old" product. Yesterday, however, Apple updated its list and added the new iPad to the official "Obsolete" list, classifying it as obsolete worldwide.

iPad 2 with dual-core A5 processor

The second-generation iPad featured an updated design that was 33 % thinner than the original iPad. The iPad also featured new features, including a front-facing camera for FaceTime calls, a gyroscope, and an updated dual-core A5 processor that was twice as fast as the original iPad and up to nine times faster in graphics. The iPad also came in white and black models. Apple classifies products that have been out of production for at least seven years as "obsolete," meaning users cannot receive hardware service from Apple or its service providers. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
