Apple erhöht US-Investitionen auf 600 Milliarden Dollar

Apple is massively expanding its commitment to the United States. With an additional investment package of $100 billion, the company's total investment in the country will rise to $600 billion by 2028. At the same time, Apple is launching a new program to promote domestic production – the American Manufacturing Program (AMP). The goal is to bring more parts of the supply chain to the United States, create new jobs, and strengthen technological independence.

The move fits Apple's long-term strategy of gaining more control over its production while simultaneously creating economic momentum in the US. The investments will flow not only into new partnerships and factories, but also into research, development, and infrastructure. This puts Apple in focus with a clear message: Manufacturing in the US makes economic, technological, and strategic sense.

Apple secures jobs in all 50 states

Apple currently works with thousands of suppliers in all 50 US states, supporting over 450,000 jobs. The new program will add an additional 20,000 jobs over the next four years. These will be created primarily in areas such as research and development, software development, AI, machine learning, and silicon technology.

The American Manufacturing Program (AMP)

As part of the AMP, Apple is intensifying its collaboration with ten selected partner companies. These include Corning, Coherent, GlobalWafers America, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, Amkor, Broadcom, and MP Materials. A key project is being developed in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, where the world's most modern production line for smartphone glass is being built together with Corning. The cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches will be manufactured there in the future. The partnership is complemented by a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center. New production capacities are also being created in Sherman, Texas. Coherent will supply VCSEL lasers for Face ID there, while MP Materials will produce rare earth magnets in Fort Worth – key components for many Apple devices. A new recycling facility for rare earth metals is also being built in Mountain Pass, California.

Silicon production in the USA

Apple is investing specifically in a complete US silicon chip supply chain. This is expected to deliver more than 19 billion chips for Apple devices by 2025. Partners such as TSMC in Arizona, GlobalWafers America in Texas, and Applied Materials in Austin play key roles.

TSMC produces tens of millions of chips for Apple in Arizona. Apple is the factory's first and largest customer. GlobalWafers America supplies the necessary 300 mm wafers – made from silicon from Corning Hemlock Semiconductor. These components are further processed into fully functional chips in the USA.
Applied Materials is producing manufacturing equipment for these semiconductor chips in Austin. At the same time, its collaboration with Texas Instruments is expanding. New production lines are being built in Lehi, Utah, and Sherman, Texas. These lines will utilize machines from Austin and wafers from GlobalWafers America.
Samsung is also part of the strategy. A completely new chip production technology is being used in Austin – the first of its kind worldwide. These chips improve the performance and energy efficiency of Apple products.
New York-based GlobalFoundries will take over the production of wireless communication and power management components, enabling longer battery life and better connectivity in Apple devices.

Final production step: Packaging in Arizona

Amkor is building a new packaging and testing facility for silicon chips in Arizona. Apple will be the primary customer. Chips produced at the neighboring TSMC factory will be packaged here and prepared for use in iPhones. This creates, for the first time, a continuous silicon supply chain within the US – from research to the finished component. Apple is also working with Broadcom and GlobalFoundries on the development of additional cellular components. These are needed for 5G communication in iPhones and other devices.

Data centers, servers and new locations

A new 250,000-square-meter Apple server manufacturing facility is being built in Houston. It is scheduled to begin mass production in 2026. These servers form the foundation for Private Cloud Compute—the infrastructure behind Apple's AI offering, Apple Intelligence. The devices are based on Apple Silicon and offer the highest security standards for cloud computing. At the same time, Apple is expanding its data center in Maiden, North Carolina. A new, state-of-the-art facility is being built there to support services such as iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Intelligence. Over $5 billion has already been invested in the region. Construction is also underway on additional data centers in Iowa, Nevada, and Oregon. All facilities will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

Training and new skilled workers

The new Apple Manufacturing Academy opens in Detroit on August 19. It will provide small and medium-sized businesses with support in using AI and advanced manufacturing technology. The goal is to prepare small and medium-sized enterprises for the demands of digital production.

Second campus in Austin continues to grow

A new Apple campus is being built in Austin, Texas. Three office buildings with over 93,000 square meters of space have already been completed, and three more are under construction. Apple employs more than 13,000 people there. The site houses teams from the areas of hardware technology, engineering, and software development, among others.
