At the end of March, the guys from 9to5mac found references to the wireless headphones in the code of iOS 12.2. Now it's official: Apple has introduced the Powerbeats Pro.

The new Powerbeats Pro are the successors to the Powerbeats 3 generation. The biggest difference to their predecessors: they are no longer wired. Like the AirPods, they are stored in a charging case. According to the description, the Powerbeats Pro should last a full nine hours.

With acceleration sensors

The new headphones will cost $250 and will be available in May. According to Apple, the Powerbeats Pro deliver "powerful, balanced sound with dynamic range and noise isolation for a premium listening experience." The Powerbeats Pro are sweat and water resistant and include the Powerbeats ear hooks in four sizes. There are physical controls on each earpiece - these buttons are used to adjust the volume and answer phone calls. They also have accelerometers like the AirPods - so the Powerbeats Pro can detect whether the user has the earpiece in their ear or not - and the music is played or paused accordingly.

case with quick-charge function

The Powerbeats Pro come in their own charging case - similar to the AirPods. The case provides a total of 24 hours of battery life. There is also a quick charge function - this should enable up to 1.5 hours of battery life in five minutes. The heart of the new Beats is the same H1 chip that was already installed in the AirPods 2. The Powerbeats Pro are available in four colors: black, ivory, moss green and navy blue. At launch, the wireless headphones will be available in over 20 countries.

Market launch in: Germany, USA, Canada, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Austria, Finland, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Australia, Belgium, Denmark and Great Britain.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
