Apple's charging mat is supposed to be able to charge several devices at the same time - AirPower was introduced in September 2017. A market launch was officially scheduled for "early 2018" by Apple.

To this day, many fans are still waiting in vain. In September last year, AirPower almost completely disappeared from Apple's homepage - without comment. Many observers interpreted this as the quiet end of the charging station. Shortly afterwards, a report with insider information appeared. According to this, Apple is said to have two problems with the charging mat. The first major problem is the overheating of the Qi mat. This is said to be so strong that even the connection between the device and the charging station is disrupted. Another problem lies in the arrangement, because the installed power coils are said to have been divided into three equal groups. Each of the coils is a different size. Due to a lack of space, this is said to lead to overlapping one another, which is one of the causes of this severe overheating.

Quick guide gives hope

This report, as well as the fact that a quick guide to AirPower can still be found in the packaging of the iPhone X, iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr, gives many fans hope. In mid-September, another sign of life appeared - an Apple patent. The patent provided the first deep insight into Apple's plans on the subject - there have never been so many details about AirPower. Since this year, it has officially been possible to speak of a delayed market launch. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether AirPower will ever reach market maturity and go on sale.

The AirPower charging station allows you to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and the AirPods charging case at the same time. During charging, the user is free to place the device in any position – there is no need to stick to a specific zone.
