The new AirPods 4 have been announced, and they bring some interesting changes and features. Apple has made improvements in several places that not only optimize the sound but also expand usability and compatibility with other Apple devices.

Apple creates excitement with each new AirPods version, and the AirPods 4 are no exception. Even though the design seems familiar, there are some crucial innovations in the details.

Capacitive button instead of physical button

One noticeable change concerns the pairing button. Previously, there was a physical button on the back of the charging case to connect the AirPods to a device. With the AirPods 4, Apple has replaced this button with a capacitive surface on the front of the case. To start pairing, simply tap the case twice as soon as the status light lights up. The AirPods can be reset either by long-pressing the capacitive button or by triple-tapping.

Discreet status light

The status display on the AirPods 4 is less conspicuous than on previous models. The small LED light disappears when the case is closed and only appears when it is opened. This keeps the design clean and tidy without you having to miss out on important information.

Support for Vision Pro and lossless audio

The AirPods 4 support lossless audio with very low latency when used with the Apple Vision Pro. This feature was previously only available on the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C. This means that the AirPods 4 offer improved sound quality for Vision Pro users, with no delays and optimal sound reproduction.

Available for pre-order now

The AirPods 4 are now available for pre-order. The model without noise cancellation costs 149 euros while the version with active noise cancellation for 199 euros is available. The first orders will be delivered on September 20th.

AirPods 4: New features for an improved listening experience

The AirPods 4 bring interesting new features like the capacitive button and support for lossless audio. The more subtle status indicator and improved connection with the Vision Pro round out the package. If you're looking for an upgrade for your AirPods, the AirPods 4 are definitely worth considering. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
