WhatsApp has made several efforts to combat fake news in recent months. Now a new feature has been added.

The popular messenger revised the mass forwarding process some time ago. Messages that have been forwarded frequently now have their own label to identify them. In addition, users can no longer forward messages to up to thirty people, but only to five. But there is another restriction here too. If a message has already been forwarded more than five times, it can only be sent to one person at a time instead of five. However, these changes are not enough, according to WhatsApp. A new feature called web search has now been added. This is intended to help check messages for authenticity. This is what the latest blog post:

WhatsApp Web Search: Introduction will be carried out gradually

Today we're introducing a simple way to review such messages by tapping a magnifying glass in the chat. This easy way to search the web for a message that has been forwarded frequently can help users find new results or information from other sources about the content they received.

However, the new symbol only appears if the message has already been registered by the system as a chain email. After clicking on the new magnifying glass, the user is asked whether he would like to start a web search. The developers emphasize that they have no insight into the content of the messages - even if the user uses the web search. The feature was introduced today in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US. The latest version of WhatsApp on iOS or Android is required to use it. Other markets are to follow soon. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
