After Microsoft rolled out the beta of the new gaming service Project xCloud on Android, iPhone and iPad are now following suit.
Microsoft released a preview of Project xCloud in TestFlight last night. However, this is limited to 10,000 people. At launch, only users from the USA, Canada and England could apply for the test.
App Store policy
Due to a special App Store policy, only one title is included in the beta - Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Additionally, the Project xCloud preview does not support streaming to Xbox - as Microsoft explains.
To comply with App Store guidelines, the preview experience on iOS may look and feel different for those who tested on Android.
What is Project xCloud?
Microsoft's Project xCloud is a cloud gaming service that October 2018 and works similarly to Google Stadia. Project xCloud enables users to stream console and PC games on a device (smartphone & tablet) of their choice. The company explained at the time:
Our vision for Project xCloud is to empower the world's gamers to play the games they want, with the people they want, wherever they want. We're building this technology to give gamers the power to choose when and how they play. Customers around the world love the immersive content of Xbox at home, and we want to bring that experience to all your mobile devices.
It is currently unknown when Project xCloud will be completed and finally released. However, there is a possibility that the new service will be released by the end of the year. (Image: Microsoft)
