Every year, Apple presents the new versions of macOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS at the WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference). One thing is certain: it will be a big year for iOS.
If the leaks are to be believed, it will be the year for iPhone, iPad, and the like. After iOS 12, according to Apple, was supposed to be a pure performance update with only a few new features, iOS 13 is eagerly awaited. The main focus of iOS 12 was on optimizing performance and improving battery life. Apple also introduced screen time and smaller innovations such as Facetime for groups. The updates were repeatedly plagued with bugs, some of which were serious - to the annoyance of many users. Of course, expectations for iOS 13 are particularly high.
The new iOS 13 – fast, dark & healthy
According to previous leaks, Apple will once again focus on performance and speed improvements in iOS 13. There will also be new animations and a redesigned widget screen. However, iOS 13 is expected to be much more than just a performance boost. The long-awaited Dark Mode is also expected. According to iOS 13, it will be possible to use the screen in black or gray system-wide. Users can access the settings directly from the Control Center. Apple also plans to revise the Reminders app and update iMessage. The Health application is also expected to be expanded. In iOS 13, the Health app will provide a daily health report, according to an internal source. Tracking menstrual cycles will also be possible in the future. A new "Hearing Health" section is also expected to be added, which will record ambient noise and music and then rate it. Apple is also planning to expand the "Bedtime" feature, and users can reportedly look forward to more options.
Additional Screen Time Features
Apple's Books app is also expected to benefit from iOS 13 – a new rewards system will be introduced to encourage users to improve their reading habits. The Friends app and iPhone Search are set to become one in the future – the merger project is being discussed internally under the codename "Green Touch." The Mail app will also be updated. According to insiders, users will soon be able to block contacts directly from the app – and muting conversations will also be possible. In addition to the innovations mentioned above, Apple will also expand Screen Time. Among the new features is the ability for parents to set limits based on individual contacts. For example, Screen Time could be configured so that friends can only be notified at certain times of the day.
Using the iPad as a monitor
The Home app will also be significantly improved - the integration of surveillance cameras will be optimized. Apple will also make extensive improvements to the iOS keyboard - this includes new swipe gestures. The Files app will also be updated in iOS 13. As part of this, Safari will be given a download function - finally! Of course, the iPad will also benefit from iOS 13. Among other things, Apple is planning the "Window" function. This will allow users to keep several tabs of a specific app open at the same time - similar to the principle of Safari on the Mac. Split View will also be taken into account. In addition, the iPad will be able to be used as a monitor in the future with the help of iOS 13 - this would finally make third-party solutions superfluous.
More emojis – that’s for sure
For some users, emojis are probably the most important thing. Of course, there will be new features here too. The Unicode Consortium presented the new emojis for 2019 based on Unicode 12.0 at the beginning of February this year. A total of 59 new emojis are to be released. To be precise, there are 230 different figures, if gender and skin color are taken into account. The new emojis will also include new animals. For example, there will be an otter, a sloth, a baboon and a guide dog. Do you like flamingos? Then show it with an emoji. There will also be skunks in the future. In addition to the new animals, there will of course also be other tasty treats to eat. A waffle, butter and juice are also included. But people with disabilities and couples in love are also now being given greater consideration - there will also be new clothing. If we take the past few years as an example, the new emojis could appear in the fall. It is conceivable that Apple will introduce the new Emojis 12.0 with iOS 13.1 or iOS 13.2.
Due to the fact that the above-mentioned features have already been documented several times in the form of leaks, their introduction is considered almost certain. Apple could, however, announce its plans by WWDC 2019 event change – it wouldn't be the first time that Apple removed features at the last minute and introduced them at a later date.
